A simple view of Amazon's return policy.

Amazon.com and most sellers on Amazon.com offer returns for items within 30 days of receipt of shipment.

For a conventional return, to return an item you ordered:

  1. Go to Your Orders to display your recent orders. To return a gift, see Return a Gift.
  2. Choose the order and select Return or Replace Items.
  3. Select the item you want to return, and select an option from the Reason for return menu.
  4. Choose how to process your return. If applicable, select to issue a refund or replacement.

    For items sold from an Amazon seller, you’ll see Submit return request. The Amazon seller reviews return requests before issuing a refund or replacement. If you don’t receive a response within two business days, you can submit an A-to-z Guarantee claim. For more information, see About A-to-z Guarantee.

  5. Select your preferred return method.
  6. Print your return label and return authorization.
    Tip: Each return label is assigned to a specific return. To make sure that you receive the correct refund, don’t include items from multiple orders or shipments in the same box.
  7. Add your return label (if applicable) and package your items for return. Pack your item securely, following the instructions sent to you when you requested your return from the Returns Center.

You can view the status of a return or a refund in Your Orders by selecting View Return/Refund Status next to the relevant order.

For a label-free, box-free return, initiate the return through Your Orders. If you selected a label-free, box-free return location, you don’t have to package your item in a shipping box. After completing the steps in the returns process, you’ll receive a QR code. Bring the item you want to return and the digital QR code to the drop-off location.

Note: Before returning items on which you’ve saved personal information, such as laptops, cameras, or other electronic devices, erase this information completely.

About Amazon Physical Store Return Policies

You can return most items purchased at an Amazon Physical store for a full refund within 30 days of purchase. In addition, eligible items purchased on Amazon.com can be returned at a participating physical store location. To determine your return options for Amazon.com purchases, use our Online Return Center.

Physical Store Returns Policy

Items purchased at an Amazon Physical Store can be returned within 30 days for a full refund, subject to our other listed return guidelines.
  • Gift Cards are not returnable (except as required by law).
  • Magazines are not returnable.
  • Grocery items and alcohol are not returnable to Amazon but may be refunded or replaced.
  • Gift recipients can return a gift with a gift receipt. Contact Us or visit the nearest Amazon Books or Amazon 4-Star to return your item.
  • Some returns made in-store may be refunded as a Gift Card. See an in-store associate for more details.

To Return an Item:

If you purchased an item from Amazon Books, Amazon 4-star, or Amazon Pop Up:
  1. Gather your items and the original product packaging.
  2. Locate your receipt (email or paper), which includes your order number.
  3. Take your item to the designated store. You can find the address on your receipt or by going to: https://www.amazon.com/stores.
Note: If you received an email receipt, or if the item you purchased appears in Your Orders, you have the option to return the item by mail. To return by mail, Contact Us to receive a mailing label. If the item doesn’t appear in Your Orders, you’ll only be able to return the item in the store. If you purchased an item from Amazon Go or Amazon Go Grocery: Visit Returning an Amazon Go or Amazon Go Grocery Item. Note: If you’ve paid for an item with cash or SNAP EBT benefits, return to the store where the item was purchased with your receipt. If you purchased an item from Amazon.com:
  1. Start your return in our Online Return Center.
  2. If an item is eligible for return to an Amazon Books, Amazon 4-Star, or Amazon Pop Up, you will have the option to select Amazon In-Store Drop off.
  3. If an item is eligible for return but cannot be returned to an Amazon Books, Amazon 4-Star or Amazon Pop Up, you will be presented with other return options.
Note: Amazon Physical Stores may not be able to accept in store returns for certain items you purchased from Amazon.com (for example, items greater than a certain size or that don’t meet safe to ship standards). For additional information on Amazon.com returns, see our Returns Policy.

Amazon Physical Store Holiday Returns Policy

Items purchased at an Amazon Books Amazon 4-star, or Amazon Pop Up store location between November 1 and December 31 may be returned until January 31 the following year for a full refund, subject to our other return guidelines listed above.

Amazon.com Return Policy

Items shipped from Amazon.com, including Amazon Warehouse, can be returned within 30 days of receipt of shipment in most cases. Some products have different policies or requirements associated with them.

Amazon Global Store Return Policy

Items can be returned within 30 days of receipt of delivery using the Online Returns Center. It can take up to 25 days for an item to reach us once you return it. Once the item is received at our fulfillment center, it takes 2 business days for the refund to be processed and 3-5 business days for the refund amount to show up in your account.

Your return label will require you to return the item at your own expense. Amazon will automatically refund up to $20 for return postage costs on receipt of the item. If your return postage costs exceed $20, you may contact our Customer Service Center to request a refund of the remaining postage cost. If you return a defective, damaged or incorrect item, you’ll be refunded the full postage cost, as well as your Import Fees Deposit, once your return is processed.

Amazon Alexa Voice Shopping

Non-digital products purchased using Alexa are eligible for free returns. To return a product purchased using Alexa, process your return as normal in the Returns Center. We’ll automatically refund you any shipping charges applied to the return. You should see the shipping refund within 7 days of receiving your product refund.

In addition, if you accidentally purchase a song or album from our Digital Music Store using Alexa, that purchase is eligible for return and refund if we receive your request within 7 days of the date of purchase. To request a refund, contact customer service.

Seller Return Policy

When you order from a seller that fulfills and ships its own inventory (also called a third party seller), your return is sent back to the seller instead of Amazon.com. While most sellers offer a returns policy equivalent to Amazon.com’s, some seller returns policies may vary. You can view the return policy of the seller before you purchase an item by viewing the Returns and Refunds Policy section of the seller profile page. To view the seller’s return policy, once you’ve ordered, you can select your order in the Returns Center.

Third-party sellers must either provide a return address within the United States, provide a prepaid return label, or offer a full refund without requesting the item be returned. If a seller does not offer these methods to return your items, you may file an A-to-z Guarantee claim to seek help with your return.

If you are sending the item within the United States and the order is valued at $100 or more, insure the shipment for the value of the merchandise and ship your return with a signature shipping service. Items valued over $35 must be returned to the seller with a trackable shipping service. For items below $35, we suggest USPS delivery confirmation service. If a package doesn’t arrive and you don’t use a trackable method to return or if you refuse the shipment as a method of return, we may not be able to cover you under the A-to-z Guarantee.

Note: If the seller’s listing is eligible for Amazon Prime, it will be subject to the same return policies as items fulfilled by Amazon.com that are outlined on this page.

Delivery with Services

  • Returns or exchanges for items purchased from a third-party seller that provided a Delivery with Service (in-home unpacking, installation, assembly, etc.) have to be scheduled by the seller.
  • During the scheduled return pick-up, the seller will uninstall or disassemble, and pick up the item.
  • All sellers participating in the Delivery with Services program are required to support scheduled return pickups or exchanges.
  • If a seller does not offer these methods, or is non-responsive to scheduling an appointment to return your items, you may contact the Amazon Home Services team, or file an A-to-z Guarantee claim.
  • If a Delivery with Services item is missing parts or damaged through customer misuse, the customer may be charged a restocking fee based on the condition of the product.

Amazon Devices

  • Amazon-branded devices such as Kindle e-readers, Fire tablets, Amazon Fire TV devices, and Echo devices and their accompanying Amazon-branded accessories purchased from Amazon.com can be returned within 30 days of receipt of shipment as long as they remain in the same condition as the date of purchase.
  • All Amazon-branded devices and accessories that are returned and for which a refund or replacement is given will become the property of Amazon upon receipt.

Amazon Fresh and Grocery Items

  • Grocery items (including Amazon Fresh and Prime Pantry items) and wine are not returnable to Amazon but may be refunded or replaced.

Amazon Handmade

  • Products sold by Handmade Makers are subject to the standard A-to-z Guarantee policies for Amazon. The exception to this are items that are purchased with optional customization options, other than size and color. See Customized Products for additional details.
  • Amazon Photos

  • Amazon Photos printed products are not returnable to Amazon but may be refunded or replaced.
  • Amazon Renewed

    • Products on Amazon Renewed are backed by the Amazon Renewed Guarantee where specifically mentioned on the product detail page. With this guarantee, you are eligible for a replacement or refund within 90 days of receiving the product if it does not work as expected.
    • Amazon Renewed products can be returned within 90 days of receipt of shipment, and qualify for free return shipping. If your return is not the result of an Amazon error or is defective, Amazon will not refund the original shipping fees.
    • Amazon Renewed products sold by third-party sellers, follow the standard 30-day Amazon return policy.

    Amazon Warehouse

  • In most cases, used or open box items purchased from Amazon Warehouse and shipped from Amazon.com can be returned within 30 days of receipt of shipment. Some products have different policies or requirements associated with them.
  • Certified Refurbished items sold by Amazon Warehouse can be returned within 90 days of receipt of shipment.
  • Automotive Items

  • If you’ve purchased a defective automotive item, shipped from and sold by Amazon.com, that is covered by a published manufacturer warranty, Amazon honors the warranty. Amazon will either replace the item or refund the cost of the item for the life of the published warranty.
  • Baby Items

  • Baby items can be returned within 90 days of receipt of shipment.
  • Gifts purchased from a Baby Registry can be returned within 365 days after receipt of shipment.
  • Breast pumps must be returned unused in their original condition with the factory seal and packaging intact.
  • If your return is not a result of an Amazon error, we won’t refund the original shipping fees.
  • Clothing and Accessories

    • You can return clothing and accessories up to 30 days after the delivery date.
    • Items from The Drop Collections are eligible for returns, but a return shipping fee will be deducted from your refund due because the item is made-on-demand for you.

    Collectibles (sports & entertainment)

  • You must return collectible items with a value of $35 or more using a trackable method. Items with a value more than $500, must also be insured.
  • All product packaging (boxes, manuals, warranty cards, etc.) and certificates of authenticity, grading, and appraisal must be returned with the item.
  • Any items returned without original documentation will be rejected.
  • Before shipping a return, photograph the item for your records.
  • Collectible Coins

    • To request return information, contact the third-party seller within 14 days of receipt. Your return must be postmarked within 30 days of the date you received the item.
    • Items with a value of $35 or more must be returned using a trackable shipping method.
    • Before shipping a return, photograph the item for your records.
    • Graded Coins and Original Government Packaged Coins must be returned in their original packaging, along with any supporting documentation.
    • Returns without the original packaging and documentation will be rejected.
    • Collectible Coins that have been damaged or otherwise altered after delivery will not be accepted for return.

    Computers and Electronics

    • New desktop, laptops, or tablets (excluding Kindle E-readers and Fires) purchased from Amazon.com that didn’t start when they arrived, arrived in damaged condition, or is still in an unopened box can be returned for a full refund within 30 days of purchase.
    • Amazon.com may test computers that are returned because they didn’t start when they arrived and impose a customer fee equal to 15 percent of the product sales price if the customer misrepresents the condition of the product.
    • Any returned desktop, laptop or tablet that is damaged through customer misuse, is missing parts, or is in unsellable condition due to customer tampering may result in the customer being charged a higher restocking fee based on the condition of the product.
    • New, used, and refurbished products purchased from Marketplace vendors are subject to the returns policy of the individual vendor.

    Digital Products

    • Unless otherwise specified, games, software downloads, and purchases from the Amazon Appstore, the Amazon Digital Music store or the Amazon Video store are not returnable after purchase.
    • Books purchased from the Kindle Store can be returned within seven days of purchase. Once a refund is issued, you can’t have access to the book. To request a refund and return content, visit Manage Your Content and Devices, select the Actions button next to the title you’d like to return, and select Return for Refund.
    • Kindle books you receive as a gift are eligible for exchange for an Amazon.com Gift Card before acceptance.
    • Subscriptions to titles in the Newsstand section of the Kindle Store (magazines, newspapers, and blogs) can be canceled at any time by visiting Manage Your Content and Devices. For more information, see Kindle Magazines and Newspapers.
    • Apps and In-App Products purchased from the Amazon Appstore may be eligible for a refund within 90 days of purchase, depending on the circumstances of your order. To request a refund, visit Your Orders and select “Return for Refund” next to that order. If you do not see a “Return for Refund” button, you are not eligible for a refund for that order.
    • Digital educational resources can be returned within seven days of purchase for a resource that has not yet been downloaded

    Gift Cards

    Hazardous Materials

    • Hazardous materials, including flammable liquids or gases are not returnable to Amazon.
    • Contact the manufacturer directly for service, warranty, return, and refund information.

    Jewelry and Watches

    • Jewelry and watch items with a value of $35 or more must be returned using a trackable shipping method.
    • All product packaging (boxes, manuals, warranty cards, etc.) and certificates of authenticity, grading, and appraisal must be returned with the item.
    • Any items returned without original documentation will be rejected.
    • Items that have been resized, damaged, or otherwise altered after delivery won’t be accepted for return.

    Live Plants or Insects

    • Fresh flowers, live indoor plants, or insects are not returnable to Amazon, but may be refundable.

    Mattresses

    • Mattresses in original packaging are returnable from your porch.
    • Unboxed, expanded, and full size mattresses are not returnable to Amazon. If you’re not satisfied with the quality of product, we will issue you a full refund within 30 days of receipt of shipment.
    • Contact the manufacturer directly for product registration and warranty related information.

    Pet Food

    • Pet food and similar products are not returnable to Amazon, but may be refundable.

    Pre-Paid Phone or Game Cards

    • Pay As You Go (or prepaid) phone cards or prepaid game cards (World of Warcraft, Xbox 360 Live, Wii Points, etc.) are not returnable to Amazon.

    Software and Video Games

    • Software and video games can be returned for a full refund within 30 days of purchase. Returned software or video games that are activated, used, or missing parts will incur up to a 100% restocking fee.

    Televisions

    • Returns for televisions shipped without Enhanced Delivery should be in new and unopened condition.
    • To return a television shipped with Enhanced Delivery, the item should be in like-new condition. When the carrier comes to pick up the television, they bring their own packaging materials. For more information on Enhanced Delivery, see About Free Enhanced Delivery.
