Macy’s Return Policy

They want you to love your purchase, and if not Macy’s will gladly accept most returns by mail and in stores within 90 days from purchase date. Exceptions are noted below.

We want you to love your purchase, but if you are not completely satisfied, we gladly accept most returns by mail and in stores within 90 days of purchase for free. Exceptions are noted below. Returned items must be in original, saleable condition with original tags. Shipping and delivery fees are non-refundable.

Note: Any new or gently used Cosmetic or Fragrance product purchased at Macy’s that does not meet your needs will be accepted for return.

Macy’s Extended Holiday Return Policy

Our return policy time frames have been extended for purchases made between now and December 31, 2020. Those purchases may be returned by either January 31, 2021 or the last date allowed under the normal applicable return policy, whichever is later.
 
The following merchandise is excluded from this extension, and the normal return policies will apply:  Apple Products, Tech Accessories and Tech Watches, Last Act Merchandise, Furniture, Mattresses, Area Rugs, Lighting, Designer Merchandise, Vendor Direct Merchandise, Bluemercury Merchandise, Macy’s Beauty Box, Food & Beverage, and Macy’s Optical.  Please see individual exception links for applicable return policies.
 

Macy’s Exceptions to the 90-Day Return Policy

Macy’s Area Rugs

 

  • Area Rugs purchased online: Returns can only be made by mail and cannot be returned to store. Contact us at 800-289-6229 within 30 days of delivery to request a return.
  • Area Rugs purchased in-store: Returns can be made at The Fine Rug Gallery located in select Macy’s stores within 7 days from receipt. Contact us at 888-241-8288 (available Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm ET) to arrange a pickup for your return (pickup fees may apply).
Note: Delivery fees and surcharges will not be refunded on Area Rugs. Returns based on preference must be returned in the original condition and include packing materials.

Macy’s Backstage Merchandise

Backstage merchandise can be returned to a Macy’s Backstage store within 30 days of purchase. Merchandise must be unworn and unaltered with original tags attached.

Bluemercury Merchandise

bluemercury merchandise can be returned by mail, or to a Macy’s store with a Bluemercury shop. We are unable to accept merchandise purchased from Bluemercury stand-alone stores.

Macy’s Designer Merchandise

Designer merchandise including Gucci, Longchamp and Tous can be returned with tags attached within 14 days of purchase to a Macy’s store carrying the brands.

  • Alexandre London custom orders are not eligible for return or exchange
  • Burberry merchandise can be returned within 30 days of purchase or sale merchandise can be returned within 14 days of purchase at Macy’s Herald Square. All returns must have the Burberry tags attached and, where applicable, a hygiene seal attached. All returns must include the original receipt
  • Louis Vuitton merchandise can be returned within 30 days of purchase at Macy’s Herald Square

Destination Maternity

Items purchased online must be returned to the vendor by mail only. Items cannot be returned to Macy’s stores. Returns are accepted within 30 days from purchase date and must be in saleable condition with tags still attached. Items are not returnable if worn, altered or if tags are removed.

Macy’s Dresses

Dresses can be returned within 60 days of purchase.

  • Dress must be in saleable condition with tags still attached
  • Items are not returnable if worn, altered, or tags removed

Macy’s Fine & Bridge Jewelry and Watches

  • Jewelry and watches can be returned with price tags attached within 60 days of purchase
  • Special order merchandise and items that have been altered for size are not eligible for return or exchange

Macy’s Finish Line Shoes

Finish Line athletic shoes can be returned within 45 days of purchase as long as your item is unworn and in saleable condition.

Macy’s Food & Beverage

Food and beverage items are not eligible for return or exchange.

Macy’s Fur Vault

Returns are accepted only by mail within 15 days of receipt. A prepaid return label is included in your package.

Macy’s Last Act Merchandise

Last Act merchandise can be returned with price tags attached within 30 days of purchase.

Macy’s Lighting

Lighting returns due to customer preferences must be made by contacting Customer Service at 800-289-6229 within 30 days of receipt.
  • Must be in original condition and with original packaging
  • Can’t be returned to the store or furniture galleries
  • Shipping fees and surcharges will not be refunded
  • A restocking fee of 15% will be assessed

Macy’s Locker Room By Lids Merchandise

Returns are accepted at any Macy’s store within 90 days from purchase date. Last Act clearance items must be returned within 30 days from purchase date.

Macy’s Beauty Box Items

Macy’s Beauty Box merchandise is not eligible for return or exchange.

Macy’s Optical

Macy’s Optical allows returns within 30 days of purchase with an original receipt. Your receipt is required at time of return and item must be in its original condition.

Macy’s Personal Care Items & Small Electrics

Personal care items and small electrics can be returned within 60 days of purchase.

Macy’s Sunglass Hut

Sunglass Hut purchases can be returned in original condition within 90 days of purchase.

Macy’s Tech Accessories

  • Tech accessories with original tags and packaging can be returned within 14 days of purchase
  • Special order merchandise and items that have been altered for size are not eligible for return or exchange

Macy’s Tech Watches

  • Tech watches with original tags and packaging can be returned within 30 days of purchase
  • Special order merchandise and items that have been altered for size are not eligible for return or exchange

How Macy’s refunds are received

You have proof of purchase: If you have your original receipt, the credit card you used to purchase, your return label or packing slip, you will get a refund in the original form of payment

It was a gift: If you have a gift receipt, a return label or a bridal registry number, you will get a refund in the form of a store credit

You don’t have proof of purchase: You may still be eligible for store credit for the item’s lowest selling price within the last 180 days

Note: Store credit may be issued as an EZ Exchange Card (can be used like a Macy’s Gift Card online or in store) or Merchandise Certificate (can be used in store only).
 
We will credit your account(s) within 3–5 business days of receiving your return. It may take several days to post activity to your account. For purchases made with multiple forms of payment, your credit accounts will be refunded the amount originally charged and the remaining amount may be issued in the form of a Macy’s Happy Returns card or a Merchandise Only Certificate mailed to your billing address in approximately 2–4 weeks.
 

How Macy’s store refunds are credited

Once your return is received in store, we will process your credit immediately. If you provide us with an email address, we will email you once your return is received and your credit is processed. Depending on your bank’s processing time, your credit may take a few days to reflect on your account.

How to make a Macy’s return

We offer free returns in store or by mail. Free returns exclude Gift Cards, food, gourmet gifts, Beauty Boxes, lamps, wall art, mirrors, furniture, mattresses and area rugs. Free returns do not apply to international orders. There is a charge for scheduled return pickup in areas offering the service.
  • Return to a store: Items purchased in a store must be returned to a store. Items purchased online can be returned by mail or to a store. Bring your original receipt.
  • No receipt? We can use the credit card you used to make your purchase, your return label, packing slip, order or shipping confirmation email or registry number to look up your information for you. At this time, we are unable to process returns at curbside.

Note: Please include only the items listed on your return label in the corresponding box. If you have multiple return labels, return items in separate boxes and apply the correct return label to each box to ensure you receive your refund without further delays. 
 

How to make a Macy’s exchange

Exchanges to a store: Items purchased in a store must be exchanged at a store. Items purchased online can be exchanged at a store, or returned by mail and a new order for the item can be made online. Bring your original receipt. 

No receipt? We can use the credit card you used to make your purchase, your return label, packing slip, order or shipping confirmation email, or registry number to look up your information for you.

Exchanges by mail: Only items purchased online can be returned by mail. Once you complete your return, place a new order for the item at current selling price. Start A Return

Furniture & mattress return policies

 

Accessories, lamps, mirrors, and wall art Return Policy:

Furniture accessories, lamps, mirrors, and wall art purchased in store may not be returned to the store. Contact Macy’s Customer Service at 888-822-6229 to request a return of your merchandise. Items purchased in store can be returned for preference reasons within 30 days of receipt if they are in the original condition and original packaging. Shipping fees won’t be refunded and a restocking fee of 15% will be charged.
 

Furniture shipped directly from the vendor via UPS Ground Return Policy:

Furniture shipped directly from our vendor to your home may be returned for preference reasons within 30 days of receipt by contacting Macy’s Customer Service at 888-822-6229. Items must be in the original condition and original packaging. Direct from vendor or UPS Ground delivered furniture can’t be returned to the store or furniture galleries. Shipping fees and any surcharges won’t be refunded and a 15% preference return fee will be charged.
Mattresses shipped directly from vendor via UPS Ground Return Policy: Please allow your body to adjust to your new mattress. If you are not satisfied, contact Macy’s Customer Service at 888-822-6229 within 120 days of receipt and schedule a one-time re-selection or return. Direct from vendor or UPS Ground delivered mattresses cannot be returned to the store or furniture galleries. Shipping fees or any surcharges won’t be refunded and a 15% preference return fee will be charged.
Furniture with scheduled delivery Return Policy: Upon delivery, carefully examine each piece of delivered furniture. If you notice any damages or imperfections within three days of your delivery, notify Macy’s Customer Service at 888-822-6229. We’ll schedule a service appointment to correct the issue. If you wish to return the furniture for preference reasons, you must contact Macy’s Customer Service within three days of your delivery. For returns based on preference, furniture protection plans will be refunded. The delivery fee will not be refunded and a restocking fee of 15% will be charged. Furniture returns based on preference must be returned in the original condition.
 
 

Mattresses with scheduled delivery Return Policy

Please allow your body to adjust to your new mattress. If you are not satisfied, contact Macy’s Customer Service at 888-822-6229 within 120 days of receipt and schedule a one-time reselection or return. The reselection must be scheduled within 14 days of your call. The mattress and/or set must be undamaged, unsoiled, and free of stains. WORRYNOMORE® Protection plan fees will be refunded so long as the complimentary mattress pad is also returned. Please note that your delivery fee won’t be refunded. A $99 pick-up fee will be charged and a 15% preference return fee will be charged. There are free first-time returns on mattresses from Purple, Saatva, Leesa, and Bedgear. The 15% preference return fee will not be charged for Tempur-Pedic mattresses. 
Furniture & Mattress Hold Policy: If you are unable to accept delivery of your merchandise within 60 days of availability, your salescheck order will be canceled. Store purchases of Final Sale/As Is merchandise Return Policy

 
Final Sale/As Is merchandise is purchased on an ‘As Is’ and ‘with all faults’ basis. The entire risk as to quality and performance of the merchandise is with the buyer. Should the merchandise prove defective following purchase, the buyer, and not the manufacturer, distributor, or retailer assumes the cost of all necessary servicing or repairs. Final Sale/As Is merchandise may not be exchanged, returned or receive a price adjustment and is not covered by any warranties for existing or future damage.
 
Special Order Return Policy: Because special order merchandise is manufactured specifically for you, Macy’s requires a 25% non-refundable deposit. Vendor ship times may vary; your Store Colleague can only provide you with an estimated ship time. If you cancel or return special order merchandise, you’ll forfeit the 25% deposit.
 

Return credit:

You’ll receive credit after the merchandise has been returned. Once we receive the merchandise, we’ll process your credit immediately. Depending on your bank’s processing time, it may take a few days to reflect on your account. If you purchased the merchandise with cash or gift cards, a refund will be mailed in the form of a check or merchandise-only certificate, which will be processed for shipment within three business days.
