Return Policy Guide
Return Policy Guide
Mattress Firm offers a 120-night sleep trial on all mattresses, including clearance and outlet models. This means that you can return or exchange your mattress for any reason within 120 days of delivery.
To return or exchange your mattress, you must contact Mattress Firm customer service within 120 days of delivery. You will be responsible for a $99.99 return delivery fee. Mattress Firm will also deduct a restocking fee of 20% of the purchase price of the mattress, up to a maximum of $500.

Mattress Firm Offers You A 120 Night Sleep Trial
Like most brand-new things, there’s going to be a bit of an adjustment period. Think of it as a brand-new pair of running shoes. It will take time for your body to adjust to your new mattress and vice versa. In fact, studies show most people experience some initial level of discomfort with their new mattress.
Sleep On Your Mattress Firm For A Minimum Of 30 Nights
Mattress Firm asks you to sleep on your mattress for a minimum of 30 nights to allow for an adjustment period. After those first 30 nights, if you are still not completely comfortable, Mattress Firm will do its best to match you to the right mattress within 120 nights of your original mattress delivery date. Subject to the above guidelines, their 120 Night Sleep Trial is valid for one exchange and/or one return per purchase, which must be done within 120 days of the delivery date of your original mattress.
Exchange Your Mattress Once
You may exchange your mattress once, with a return delivery fee of $99.99*, and receive, as credit toward the purchase price of a different mattress, the purchase price of your original mattress less a restocking fee equal to 10% of your original mattress purchase price (restocking fee not to exceed $250).
Aren’t Absolutely 100% Satisfied
If you still aren’t absolutely satisfied with your new mattress, you can return it with a return delivery fee of $99.99* and receive, as a refund, the purchase price of your new mattress less a restocking fee equal to 20% of your new mattress purchase price (restocking fee must not exceed $500). Your refunded purchase price will be further reduced by any state use taxes that we are required to apply.
Stained, Unsanitary, or Damaged Mattress Firm Mattresses
Mattress Firm is unable to exchange or refund stained, unsanitary, or damaged mattresses under the 120 Night Sleep Trial. That’s why we highly recommend using a waterproof mattress protector to help keep your new mattress clean. In addition, we recommend keeping all original tags on your mattress. If you remove the law tag from the mattress or foundation, it will void the 120 Night Sleep Trial.
Please note that our 120 Night Sleep Trial is not valid on warranty exchanges, clearance merchandise, floor models, pillows, mattress protectors, adjustable bases, furniture or other accessories. All special order sizes (California King, Split Cal King, three quarter, etc.) for mattresses and foundations are final and not eligible for exchanges or returns. In the state of California, the California king size is not special order and is therefore eligible for applicable comfort guarantee policies. See a store associate or contact one of our live chat customer service representatives on our website for more details.
All sales are final and not eligible for exchange or return on the following items:
- Warranty exchanges
- Clearance merchandise
- Floor models
- Pillows
- Mattress protectors
- Adjustable bases,
- All special order sizes (California King, Split California King etc.)

Is Mattress Firm Return Policy Strict?
Mattress Firm’s return policy is not as strict as some other retailers, but it has some limitations. For example, you must contact Mattress Firm within 120 days of delivery to schedule a return delivery appointment. You are also responsible for a $99.99 return delivery fee and a restocking fee of 20% of the purchase price of the mattress, up to a maximum of $500.
Additionally, Mattress Firm will not accept returns on mattresses that have been used for more than 21 nights, damaged, stained, or altered in any way. Mattresses purchased at an outlet store or clearance center are also not eligible for the 120-night sleep trial.
Overall, Mattress Firm’s return policy is fair, but it is important to be aware of the limitations before you purchase a mattress. If you are unsure whether a mattress is right for you, you may want to consider purchasing it from a retailer with a more lenient return policy.
Here is a comparison of Mattress Firm’s return policy to the return policies of two other major mattress retailers:
- Mattress Firm | 120-night sleep trial with a $99.99 return delivery fee and a 20% restocking fee | |
- Casper | 100-night sleep trial with free returns and no restocking fee
- Purple | 100-night sleep trial with free returns and no restocking fee |
As you can see, Casper and Purple have more lenient return policies than Mattress Firm. However, it is important to note that Casper and Purple mattresses are typically more expensive than Mattress Firm mattresses.
Ultimately, the best way to decide which mattress retailer to purchase from is to compare the return policies of different retailers and choose the retailer that has the policy that is most important to you.
Does Mattress Firm Use A Return Verification System?
Yes, Mattress Firm does use a return verification system. This system is designed to prevent people from abusing the company’s return policy.
When you return a mattress to Mattress Firm, they will inspect it to make sure that it meets the requirements for a return. If the mattress is damaged, stained, or has been altered in any way, Mattress Firm will not accept the return.
Mattress Firm also uses a system to track returns. If you return too many mattresses, Mattress Firm may refuse to accept future returns from you.
The return verification system is designed to protect Mattress Firm from fraud and to ensure that all customers are treated fairly.
Here are some of the ways that Mattress Firm verifies returns:
- Inspecting the mattress for damage or stains. Mattress Firm will not accept returns on mattresses that are damaged or stained.
- Check the mattress for signs of wear and tear. Mattress Firm will not accept returns on mattresses that have been used for more than 21 nights.
- Tracking returns per customer. Mattress Firm may refuse to accept future returns from customers who return too many mattresses.
If you are considering returning a mattress to Mattress Firm, it is important to be aware of the company’s return policy and the return verification system.
